Great Purchase.

"I bought this generator for my cabin and also for home if the power grid goes down. Bought this generator on sale and I haven't looked back, it does everything i want it to do. When I opened the box I put in some gas and filled it up with oil and it went on the second pull. Currently running a television, satellite and lights at the cabin with a lot of power to spare. I would recommend anyone to buy this product."

reliable workhorse for 3 weeks solid

"Worked this generator for 3 solid weeks to run an RV in extreme wind and rain on a family vacation. Never failed to start and kept consistent power supplied to run a fully functional RV for a family of 3. It was also surprisingly quiet.
I have no doubt that next year it will start first pull.
Thrilled that i got it on sale for 400.00. A great buy.
I may stay off the grid."

Excellent for home back-up power

"After almost 4 years my Yardworks 3200W genny packed it in ( fuel leak at gas tank). That unit is no longer made, nor has spare parts, so Yardworks gave me a Return Authorization # for a full refund at CTC. After some considerable amount of paperwork I was out the door with my new Champion generator that turned out to be on sale, saved $200, regular price $600, plus it came with a wheel kit. After about 10 minutes I had it assembled, filled with oil and some gas. Fired up on the second pull and was purring away, if you can call 68db's purring. There is no idle down feature so it runs full out , load or no load. Connected the power cord to the transfer panel and it powered our fridge, microwave, 2 ceiling fans, fireplace fan, bedroom lights, TV with satellite, living room lighting, and I'm happy to say, the 1/2HP water pump. The Yardworks couldn't power the pump. Obviousy as power demand increases, so does the noise level, but with the door closed and the unit 20 feet away, it's hardly noticable. Besides that, we all have gennys around here and when the power goes out, you only hear your own, not your neighbour's. The unit is made in China, and compared to my neighbour's Briggs and Stratton, the Champion is much quieter. I like the fact it has four 15A plugs plus a 30A RV outlet, the controls are well placed and the fuel shut-off and choke lever are made of metal, not plastic. There is no 12V outlet which is fine by me, never used it anyway. As a bonus there is a voltmeter and fuel gauge and the fuel cap is tight fitting, no fear of spilling fuel if you have to move the generator around.This genny is heavy, so the wheel kit is a must, or make your own. Noise level is comparable or quieter when compared to units of the same size. I would say this unit is not suitable for a Provincial or State park or for tailgating, but is perfect for home back-up power. For those outings take your Yamaha/Honda. Also came with a 2 year warranty."

Good machine.

"Bought one in February, just in case power is out for any length of time at -30 below in Sask. But we did have a storm that knocked out power for two days, and hooked up my furnace and sump pumps and started the machine. It started flawlessly, and ran for two days plus, and I couldn't get over how little gas it took. Very pleased with the purchase. Felt sorry for those in town that didn't have one..

"Generator started first pull right out of the box. The only problem I had was that the handle assembly was broken at the weld. I have emailed the company for a new one and hope they send me one. Other than that looks like it will work fine and pretty quiet for it's size."

"I'm very impressed with this generator, it came easy to assemble, and owners guide very easy to read and understand. It started first pull, right out of the box (after I added the oil of course). Mine came with the wheel kit include for only 299.99, can't beat it for the price. It works excellent and has no problem running appliances. I plan on using it for my camper, and with its compact design and quietness its perfect for the job."

Wise decision.

"Recently purchased this generator and I am impressed so far. As per assembly instructions, everything was easy to assemble, all necessary parts and assemble hardware were included. Made the mistake of not including the Wheel Mobility Kit so I had to purchase it as the generator is difficult to handle without wheels.
Topped up with oil (was provided with purchase), filled with fresh fuel, on third pull of the cord, it started.
Tried running several power tools from my shop and the generator just kept on delivering.
I am surprised with how quite it runs. Its twice as quite as my lawn mower and snowblower. Wise decision on my part to purchase this generator."

Long run time.

"We needed a gernator with a LONG run time. We use them to charge batteries at a Solar Power site, and the other low cost generators we have purchased have a 6 to 8 hour run time, which was just not quite enough to get the battery banks fully charged.

This Generator has a 15L tank, and claims a 12 hour run time at half load, which we thought would be hopefully enough. We paired it with a 25A Intelligent Batter charger, filled it to the brim, and got 23 HOURS running time! YES, 23 hours.

It's also very easy starting, and it is Very Quiet compared to the previous 1300 watt generators we were using, and since it's probably not running anywhere near 'half load' now, the run time is astounding.

The only thing I'd like to see generators have is a built in battery charger. Some of them do have 12v outputs, but that's really only suitable for running 12v devices, and not really the ~14 volts needed to really charge a 12v battery.

In any case, 5 outta 5 for my vote. Very, very impressed."

HAS ANYBODY HAD ANY GROUNDING ISSUES?

Question:

I HAVE HAD SOME ADVICE TO DISCONNECT THE NEUTRAL BOND TO FRAME RESULTING IN A "FLOATING NEUTRAL" WITH LESS DANGER OF POTENTIAL SHOCK. ALSO, EXACTLY HOW ARE OTHER PEOPLE GROUNDING THE GENERATOR?
THE MANUAL IS A BIT NEBULOUS.

Answer:

If the generator is equipped with a neutral bond, then removing it, is not recommended. In Canada, the generator was certified by CSA as delivered to the customer. Modifying the neutral bond would void the CSA certification. Champion does make some generators with floating neutrals (unbonded). There are advantages and disadvantages for the bonding vs. floating. However, modifying a certified unit is not recommended.
A grounding rod is primarily useful for lightening protection. Many customers choose to ignore this protection. The requirement to ground a generator to earth may be defined by local ordinances which would need to be confirmed by you or your electrical contractor. You should follow your local or national electrical code specifications. Champion is not an electrical utility company or code expert on all the variations of local codes in North America therefore we recommend to consult with a qualified electrician to ensure compliance with local electrical codes.
