My peace of mind

"Ever since the ice storm of 98 and 10's of thousands of dollars in repairs, i have felt apprehensive when the weatherman says to expect freezing rain. NO MORE. After hooking up the Champion 5500W genset to act as auxillary power to my furnace and water pump i can finally sleep on those stormy winter nights. This gen. preforms flawlessly and efficiently to provide emrg. power to both. Outstanding!"

"I have used this generator several times. Just after Christmas my poweer was out for 2 days and this generator kept all of my essentials running with no problem"

"We purcased two of these generators for use on a remote island location,the second a backup to the first.Initial performance lived up to the glowing reviews but the starter broke on the first gen. after just 32 start-ups.The second gen did not produce any electricity after 2hrs,although there were indications that it had been dropped prior to purchase,this may excuse this generators failure.
By combining the two "new " generators we have one that works ,, for now.
This may be an excellent gen. for the cottage,but I would not rely on one in a more critical role"

Solid 4 Stroke..

"Well I shopped around for a about month before buying this in March and I couldn't be happier. It gets a work out almost every weekend at our cottage and so far not a hint of a problem. It runs about 10-12 hrs. at about 50-75%? load.. running an older fridge, freezer, half a dozen lights, water pump and occassional appliances (incl. microwave) and lately a power saw during our reno project. Great value for the wattage and performance. Only one suggestion, immediately change the gunk (oil) that it ships with."

Is this generator CSA approved and does it have a bonded neutral?

Answer:

Yes the neutral is bonded to the frame to comply with CSA standards, however from Champion technical bulletin:
For certain generator applications, a qualified electrician may recommend removing the neutral bond to the generator frame, resulting in a “floating neutral”. Feeding electrical power to a house through a transfer switch which does not switch neutral may be one example."

See attached photo showing this wiring is easily accessed on the generator frame.

Contacted the Manufacturer - Champion. They said:

All of our models are CSA approved and have a bonded neutral except for our 1000 and 2000 watt inverter models.

Will Canadian Tire pre-assemble the wheel/frame package for you? Can't lift that much!

Answer:

You will need to ask for assistance at the store at the time of purchase, or at customer service desk. They should have no issues assembling this for you.
