will not work in boat

"i have owned a 1000w pure sine inverter for 2 or 3 years now and it has never worked properly if i run my boat engine wial operating the inverter the inverter over loads and peeps and shuts down.i have tested the voltage regulator and replaced the alternator and it puts out 13 to14 volt the inverter will only work if it get 12volt any more and it overloads!!!!!!!"

DESIGN CHANGE DISAPPOINTMENT

"We installed this unit in our RV. I chose it because it was pure sine, but also because it came with a key fob remote and flat mount remote which would allow us to put it in an inaccessible place. However, the design has changed. There is no key fob remote, and the remote mount must be counter sunk. Very disappointing since this is the only pure sine unit we could find."

Not enough power for a microwave

"I tried using this inverter with a 700 watt microwave and 250 ml of water in the oven. It would not power it."

"This may be the best xmas gift yet. It will run a low wattage microwave, a tea kettle, toster, or my laptop. Just not all at the same time. I may never eat truckstop food again."

OK for pellet stove draws 600w and 5a at startup?

Question:

Stove draws 360w when operating. This would be an emergency-only hookup, deep-draw 12V battery and inverter would not normally be tied into the system.

if i put 14volts from a running engine it overloads the inverter why? and can it be fixed

the inverter is mounted on a boat with 12volt system most alterators put out 13 to 14 volt the inverter i have is 1000w pure sine inverter and has never worked unless i run it of a battery not in the system and not being charged when in use

Answer:

If the engine was running, most likely it had to provide output for more than 15V and it triggered the over-voltage protection on the inverter.

The voltage from the alterators is not very stable, you'd better to connect a 100Ah battery to stablize the voltage.

Have you tried on a different boat / car in case the alternator voltage regulator could be spiking voltage above 15V.

You could have a deffective inverter too.

What is the standby power consumption of this unit

Question:

In an earlier post, someone indicated that this product consumes 2.15amps (almost 30 watts) when just turned on with no appliances plugged in. This seems incredibly high. Most other units are around .3amps (less than 4watts). Can this be confirmed?

I have this model and mine draws 0.36 amps with nothing plugged and the inverter turned on.

Answer:

It's normal for this inverter. Partially because it's a cheap inverter, and so efficiency was neglected, and partially because it's a sine wave inverter and they are less efficient to begin with.
Another Q/A confirms that 2.15 amps is normal.

This could be correct, pure sine wave inverters use a lot more energy than modified sine wave inverters. I was looking at replacing my Xantrex 2000 watt modified with a 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter but decided not to when I found out that its no load draw was 60 watts. We are completely on solar and 60 watts is a big draw.

It is abnormal ,because our standard is less than 0.6A, we suggest to check whether it works normally with appliances, such as whether the fun runs, and if other functions are normal , then can judge further if the PCB has been damaged.

Can this run a portable car heater?

Question:

Hi - my heater died in my 2001 Saab 9-5. As a quick and temporary fix, will this power the Pyroil Interior Heater

Answer:

Remember the "efficiency" factor. You only get about 85% of rated capacity when you take heat loss etc into account. Much like a 400HP car only gives about 280HP at the wheels. If you run 1000W @120V you are drawing approx 8.2A. At 12V you are drawing 82A. Your battery will last about 10 minutes. Also wiring from the battery to the inverter must be huge for voltage drop reasons. Even with the vehicle running you will drain down the battery. Big misnomers floating around about these inverters.

Answer:

This power inverter can power that heater, yes, but can your car power the power inverter with that heater? If this is a regular car without a special extra powerful battery or alternator (at least 1000 watts!) then this won't work, not even close.
You're better off getting those car seat warmers, those will work, though it won't warm the car much, but it will warm you.
You could use the heater to pre-warm the car with regular household current too.
