Best charger ever, unless you're in a rush.

"Easy to use, sturdy, not too poweful (a good thing). The CFT clerk told me that the only downside of this charger is that it does not charge a completely flat battery fast enough. I don't have to charge my batteries in 5 minutes, if I'm in a rush I use a battery pack. I don't plan to charge the batteries of the space shuttle anytime soon anyway. Best charger you can get for your car or motorcycle batteries, especially at 40 percent off."

The best 3.3 Amp charger/maintainer

"I tested this charger against a less expensive 1.5 Amp Schumacher charger/maintainer purchased from Walmart. The Schumacher emitted off gases likened to what you would smell when hard plastic is warmed to around 35 degrees Celsius. The CTEK reached the same temperature odour free. Plus, at 3.3 Amps, the CTEK charged a 12 Volt 20 Amp-Hour battery quicker than the 1.5 Amp Schumacher. This charger is definitely worth purchasing especially when it is discounted 40% to $49.99."

Great for storing your toys in the winter

"This charger actually performs as it claims.

Most chargers that claim to be compatible with AGM batteries actually put out too much voltage and will damage the battery if left hooked up too long. The CTEK 3300 on motorcycle mode does a great job either as a trickle charger or for topping up you lawnmower, snowmobile, ATV, boat, etc... batteries in the off season without fear of damage or boiling the battery dry.

The optional quick connect harnesses mean that for all the toys, you get a simple plug and play connection without having to remove the battery or risk shorting the alligator clips to the frame."

Works for the boss' Mercedes...

"I bought this CTEK 3300 on the advice of my boss who has used it for three winters to keep the charge on his winter-stored Mercedes convertible. He also has one on his array of 6V RV batteries, which is what I use mine for.

Tried the Motomaster one last year, it was okay but had some minor annoyances/issues. This CTEK unit kills the MM one. After two months of having the batteries hooked up, I tested them out with several 6V and 12V applications - they were fully charged and performed beautifully. I feel confident that my expensive 6V deep cycle RV batteries will be ready come next spring."

"I bought this battery maintainer three years ago and it keeps my battery fully charged. I like the idea it will not over charge my battery. The lights on top will tell you if it is charging or maintaining the battery. A little expensive but good deal if you buy it on sale. Don't make the mistake and buy a cheaper brand it won't compare."

One of the Best Chargers for Motorcycle Batteries

"I purchased this item as a result of a referral by a friend of mine. It was purchased to tender my motorcycle battery during the winter months. I bought this item when it went on sale ($49.99). I used it this past winter and it was the easiest thing to use. It kept the battery charged and it is nice and compact. If you are a owner of a motorcycle or small vehicle that uses a battery, I would highly recommend getting this charger. You won't regret it."

Can I do a trickle charge with this 3.3A charger instead of a 2.0A charger? Thanks!

Answer:

This charger has a 0.8A setting for small batteries and a 3.3A setting for normal size batteries. In both cases, the charger automatically goes into a maintain (float) mode after the battery is fully charged, delivering a very small amount of current as needed . This safely keeps the battery at full charge for as long as you have it connected.

Answer:

Yes. But, read the maximum trickle charge for the particular battery being affected. For example, a 12 Volt 20 Amp-Hour battery should not be exposed to any more than 2.0 Amps of trickle charging. The unit allows you to select the type of battery being charged/maintained. So, it's a fail-safe unit. To help, you can search and download the unit's instructions.

Yes. It will sense a drop in voltage below a prescribed limit and will automatically produce enough Amps to maintain the prescribed minimum Voltage.

Answer:

The input voltage is 85-125V. CTEK does have 220V products for their European markets however we don't know whether they sell them in North America at all.

Answer:

No. Canadian Tire sells the North American version which requires 120VAC 60 Hz.

Can it turn on automatically when plugged in?

I'm looking for something so that when my block heater timer turns on the power, the charger will start charging without any buttons being pushed.

Answer:

The charger will maintain the last selected charge mode when unplugged from household power. The back drain current is only 1.3mA so it can be left hooked up to the battery without fear of discharging if no AC power is supplied to the charger.

Answer:

Yes, this charger will work for this. This charger requires you to select the charge mode when first plugged in (essentially turn the unit on) but it will automatically restart/resume if the power is disconnected (like unplugged or controlled by a timer). The only time you need to select the charge mode (i.e. turn the unit on again) is if you disconnect the battery clamps from the battery.

Many on our chargers function this way (i.e. without an ON switch). You might also want to consider models 11-1506 or 11-1507.

Temperature Rating?

Question:

The manufacturer considers anything below 5 degrees Celsius. So I was wondering if this items would still function at - 40 Celsius (aka real winter temperatures).

Answer:

The operating range for the charger is rated as - 4°F to +122°F (-20°C to 50°C).

A discharged battery at very cold temperatures (like -40 Celsius) should not be charged when frozen. Battery should be moved indoors for 24 hrs prior to charging.

It's not the charger that struggles at -45C, it's that batteries become VERY difficult to charge the colder it gets -- the chemical reaction that needs to take place inside the battery is slower the colder it gets.

You won't find a better charger to try with. This CTEK unit has a special setting for orbital/spiral grid batteries that charges at a slightly higher voltage. This is the same setting to use on regular batteries in extreme cold.
