These are all good Haier made units

"Just so you know, Danby = Whirlpool = Garrison = Noma = Uberhaus = Haier. Haier makes these units for Danby, Whirlpool, Trileaf Marketing (CTC), and Rona.

The Whirlpool ACQ088PV 8,000 BTU unit uses the 8,000 BTU 10.8 EER cooling system in the Haier ESA408K and Danby DAC8011E models. We have the Haier ESA408K version and it's quite good. Not too loud on low, not too hard to install, and cools as it's supposed to.

We like the remote feature, but found it a bit disappointing that the timer feature only allows you to set the unit to start up to 24 hours from now (i.e., it's essentially a delayed start feature). You can't set it to turn on/off every day at the same time, for example. The digital thermostat is nice and is an improvement on the old rotary knobs.

The Whirlpool version has the "6th Sense" feature, which adjusts the fan speed based on how hot the room is (kinda like a car's AC system on Auto). Nice touch, but hardly essential.

Regarding the 5,250 and 6,000 BTU Garrison AC units, the Garrison 5,250 BTU unit uses the 5,200 BTU 10.7 EER cooling system that is used in Haier ESA405K and Danby DAC5211 models, etc with the 6,000 BTU units. But unless you have a small room on the main level, I wouldn't go for anything less than an 8,000 BTU unit. A medium-large sized room on an upper level, facing south, etc will be too much for the 5-6,000 BTU units to handle."

Quiet, Efficient & Cold

"Unit was purchased to cool a 200 square foot bedroom with 10 foot ceilings and large windows! It cools the room with ease. The thermometer works well and accurately regulates the room temperature.

Great value for money!"

I'm impressed!

"I was going to buy a 10,000 BTU but could not lift it. A very helpful salesperson helped me choose the 8,000 BTU. It is much easier to lift. After I finally got it installed, (I had trouble fitting a piece of wood to block the window above the air conditioner - my windows are very old), I was impressed how quickly it cooled the entire first floor of my home ( approx. 493 sq ft). I actually had to turn the temperature up to 70 F. Even my dog relaxed completely! And quiet! I work off my phones every weeknight, so I was extremely happy to realize I could have this air conditioner running while I worked! As for the electricity used; I left the air conditioner off, and timed the electric meter on my house. Then I went in, turned it on high, and checked the meter again. There was very little difference. Amazing! The only thing I do warn people about with this one, is the control panel. LOL It's been two weeks, and I still haven't figured all of it out, but as long as I can turn it on and off, I'm happy! :) I definitely recommend this model!"

Worst Post-sales supports

"...the unit broke down one year within the warranty.

Transglobal is the supplier to fix the machine & they sent three poorly trained tech to fix the unit:

The first man came & gone without getting anything done & threw a tandrum in our place; the second guy came & ordered a wrong part for the thrid guy who came next to fix the unit. Of course he could not fix that & he took away the unit.

Transglobal's call center is located in out West & has no idea what's going on with the tech team in Toronto

I spent God knows how much time on this....."

Loud and ineffective

"I bought this unit to replace a portable 5K BTU unit, so I could free up some floor space. Unfortunately it doesn't do very much cooling. Some combination of the fan not being very powerful and the thermostat it has just aren't cutting it. The temperature will frequently climb to +10 degrees above the desired set temperature before the cooling will turn on and often turns off again a few minutes later before the temperature has changed at all. The fan is also rather weak, even on high I can't feel any noticeable airflow more then a foot away from the unit. On top of this, the AC rattles and creaks fairly loudly. I'm going to return it and go back to the portable AC."

When you are setting the desired temperature, the LED shows your desired temperature. After five seconds while the unit adjusts, the LED will turn back to show the room temperature automatically. Let it run for a while and the temperature will adjust to desired setting.

Under 6th sense mode, the unit will work automatically - it is not adjustable.
