You get what you pay for

"This mower shouldn't be sold! I made the mistake of purchasing it on sale at the beginning of the season and it has been a headache ever since. First, the lack luster motor chugs its way to a slow death, but only after dozens of attempts to start it. Second, it didn't come with a bag for grass clippings and it isn't equipped to add an after- market bag. Third, the only way to raise and lower the wheels is to unbolt them and re-attach them in one of three settings. Last, the rubber skirt at the back regularly gets caught underneath the mower ... it all adds up to one woefully inadequate and utterly unenjoyable lawn-cutting experience! Now, my only concern is, how do I get rid of it?"

good motor

"I have owned this mower for three years now. The good is that the motor does seem to be reliable and pretty powerful. The bad is that the wheels are very very cheap. With a metal bolt running threw a plastic wheel it won't be long before you start to see ware. I just purchased metal wheels with bearings for $10 a peace. For that price they should never use plastic wheels at least ones that don't have bearings. The metal they seem to use is very thin. I cut my grass on the highest setting and the holes that they provide are so close to the edge the steel cracked. I had to get steel welded in to keep the back tires from rubbing on handles and making it very hard to push. I under stand it is $160 mower but small improvements would help drastically."

For the money you could not go wrong

"Well i have owned this lawnmower now for 4 days and i am very happy with this yard machine it cut through my hay field of a lawn no problem hit a few rocks chewed those up and turned them to dust. went through 2 tanks of gasoline this little lawnmower now has a nickname "black beauty" even when covered with grass it still looks good"

Cuts the grass

"Assembly was a little rough. Do not over-tight the bolts. I was installing the side discharge piece and when tightening the bolt, it snapped. Got me wondering a little about the quality.

It's been a couple months and it works great so far (as it should). I found that it doesn't seem to spin the blade as fast as my old one. Not a major problem but I'll have to make sure to keep the blade real sharp. For the money it's a good buy. It's easy to start, light to push around and cuts the grass. Durability.. .we'll have to wait and see."

Good Bang For The Buck !!!

"This lawnmower, came practically all assembled.

Put some oil and gas, pulled on the crank 3 times for the first starting and off we went mowing the lawn.

Very good handling, and very good in wet grass, this mower never once buckled at wet grass, just mowed on through.

I would recommend this mower, we have no regrets and you can't go wrong for the price."

"I dont really see the need for all the fancy gadgets you can get on push mower now. The drive function is nice if you have a big yard, but for a city yard, this is great."

"I needed to purchase a replacement for my 4 year old Craftsman lawn mower. I did not require such a big machine as I downsized my lawn area. This "No Frills" mower has turned out to be great. It is easy starting, light weight, and powerful enough to cut wet grass with ease. Although the product states that it has a Tecumseh engine, this unit comes with a Briggs and Stratton, which works great. If you are looking for a simple little mower this is well worth the money spent. (For under $200.00)"

Good for large yard?

Is this lawn mower suitable for a larger yard, 100 x 250 feet?

Answer:

This value-oriented mower is perfectly suited for residential yards of all sizes. If you have slopes or wish to collect grass clippings and leaves, consider a similar model with a grass-bag like Canadian Tire product #60-1603 or a self-propelled version such as 60-1619.

The lawn mower works fine wether it is a small yard or large yard... You could mow a 500 x 500 feet if you were up for it...

Can I use Pennzoil 5w-30 auto engine oil? If not what oil (brand and type) should I use?

Answer:

I use regular automotive oil in all my small engines. The manual will likely specify 30W oil. You will be fine with 5W30 or 10W30 but may consume slightly more oil. Check the level and top up if needed prior to each use. It is critical you change the oil after the first 5 hours from new and every 25 hours running time afterwards. Change it at the end of the mowing season prior to storage regardless of running time. Use a reputable brand oil. Pennzoil will be fine. With proper maintenance your mower should be reliable and last for many years.

*Proper lubrication levels are vital to ensure safe and efficient engine performance.

For Briggs & Stratton engines use a high quality detergent oil SAE30 for operation above 40 degrees F (4 C) and below this temperature use 5W-30.

I was told in the store it isn't equipped to add a grass catcher.

Answer:

This model is designed with a fixed discharge chute and blade optimized for side discharge only. For grass catcher flexibility consider model 60-1616 (side discharge) or model 60-1603 (rear discharge).

Straight oil 10W30 and unleaded gas
